I love this presentation of beads and tulle, just perfect for a holiday party. We are going to be missing all of our holiday parties while we are in Asia!

Snowflakes and Parties

I love this presentation of beads and tulle, just perfect for a holiday party. We are going to be missing all of our holiday parties while we are in Asia! I’m still processing that. This is the first year in a long time I don’t have an excuse to seek out a new holiday party dress…something I look forward to every year. This darling snowflake dress from Rock Paper Vintage (one of my NYC favorites) will be the perfect fit for someone this season!

Nordstrom To Open NYC Non-Profit Store

The Nordstrom department store chain was established in 1901 and since then been well regarded for it’s large, upscale stores providing high quality fashion & apparel with top-notch customer service. Well next year, this brands jumps into new territory, launching a not-for-profit store in NYC.

The Soho store will turn all of it’s profits over to nonprofits that have not been disclosed at this time. ”Corporate spokeswoman Pamela Lopez told the Seattle Times that the intention is not to create a “mini-Nordstrom” but to come up with something new that will have its own identity” said corporate spokeswoman Pamela Lopez.
This store is reportedly not a part of a new business model for Nordstrom at this time, but an effort to test a store concept in a city and market they are looking to learn more about.

Get ready, Toronto..

I’m so looking forward to a day’s adventure in Toronto before visiting family in Kitchener in a couple of weeks. I’m going to be looking to my Toronto friends to help me find a couple of great spots to check out! In preperation for some real winter weather (rather than the 85 degree Los Angeles November) I was looking for some boots proper for the snow. I came accross these hot red 80′s wellies on the Market Publique marketplace and snagged ‘em up! I had a moment after confirming my purchase where I realized that these may not really be “snow” boots and these may be a California Girl’s idea of what snow boots could be. I have a feeling they’ll keep the toes warm and dry just fine with some wooly insoles. And with boots this adorable, who cares what they’re called! Thx Market Publique!

Lace. Lace. Lace. I love me some lace! I’m in luck, antique-style lace has officially been declared a trend to carry into Fall 2010 and 2011. Looks like this lovely post also features the same Olivia Palermo triple tier lace dress pic that I featured in my Vintage Lace blog post back in July. I’m just saying.. WOTD: Thrift Whore

I have to reference Urban Dictionary at least once a month.  Does that make me old?  Either way, I’m down with the Word of The Day from Tuesday: “Thrift Whore”.

Thrift Whore:
1. a person who shops at many different thrift stores, thereby often finding wonderful deals.
2. One who feels the urge to brag about every single piece of crap they find a t a thrift store.

ex. Becky is such a thrift whore – she found a flying house for a dollar!

I sense some typecasting going on here. Does blogging count as bragging? Oh well, this blog is happily written by a proud LA Thrift Whore!

(Photo from my trip to Collective SF where I proudly bragged about my vintage finds.)

Ode to the 20′s

Let’s look back to an era of great elegance and creativity. Roaring 20‘s and Flapper Fashion stands for change, entertainment and individuality. It was a time that allowed women to break away from fashion molds and start to make their own fashion decisions and expressions. Women were coming into their own, taking a stand and battles of the sexes emerged. 20′s fashion was an inspiration that threads into many of today’s most elegant fashion moments.

For the first time – the freedom to choose. The lavish embellishments that were ridiculed by many, gave women their own voice. This era was so influential for how we approach fashion today, as an expression of our individual character and creativity. And look at the options; beads, fun and lace galore! Mmm..

You shouldn’t be surprised that celebs, fashionistas and stylists turn back to the 20′s for vintage and vintage inspired elegance on the red carpet. Here’s a couple lovelies from the last few years that caught my eye. How can you go wrong with such a classic look?

Inspired by Blogger Prom 2010!

Artists & Fleas

In 2003, a new creative environment emerged in an empty Williamsburg warehouse. A place where artists and designers, vintage collectors and enthusiasts can come together, network and sell amongst a like-minded group of sellers and shoppers. After it’s 7th year, Artists & Fleas has retained the values that it grew from originally and continues to be a noted Williamsburg shopping destination as well as a launching page for artists and designers who are able to take advantage of the rich pedestrian traffic of the area.

“Part community gathering spot, part hipster haven, Artists & Fleas has hosted thousands artists and vendors since opening its doors. Now in its seventh year, Artists & Fleas continues to be a destination for shoppers, a launching pad and store front for artists and designers and collectors, and an attraction for locals and visitors from near and far in search of local flavor and the indie spirit. Over the years, we’ve received incredible feedback. People never fail to comment about the vibe, the quality and integrity of the work, and – most importantly – the deep sense of community that the market has fostered for those who have set up and sold. With new vendors every week, guest DJs spinning, an occasional guest musician appearance  visits from neighborhood characters and regulars, Artists & Fleas is a vibrant community place and a vital weekend destination to shop and sell.”

I ran across Artists & Fleas skimming through a fashion blogger interview and it’s definitely on my list for my next trip to NY.

Capes

Here comes the Fall, which isn’t really fair because we didn’t get much of a summer at all yet here in LA. But with Fall approaching we’re starting to see some lovely new and old Fall coat trends appearing on my favorite sites and blogs. The cape is one of those lovely old trends that’s reemerging for 2010. Most of the capes are featured are in dark and neutral tones (black, gray, navy and beige – or “dirty martini” as Marc Jacobs is calling it these days.) But it doesn’t stop there! Check out some vintage capes that are going to give you a little more color, textures and character.

Mustard Yellow Knit: This is my own, a Thrush Vintage score from last year that I’m still waiting to break out.

Vintage 50′s Coat @ QuiteTheEye

Vintage 60′s Welsh Wool Cape @ Scary Canary Vintage (UK)

Vintage 80′s Reversible Cape @ The Ragged Priest (UK)

Here’s a little visual on the evolution of the Cape, that emerged from the Cloak trend of the 16th & 17th Centuries for both sexes.

“It is inspired by Sherlock Holmes, it is inspired by Harry Potter, it lends mystery and magic, perhaps even black magic, to your look.”

The Lilli Ann that got away…

We all know the feeling of losing that special piece. Sometimes it’s too good to be true. Sometimes it’s a life lesson. Sometimes it’s a reminder not to hold too much energy with the immaterial objects in your life. And sometimes you’re just too slow to buy!!

I’ve been thinking about this lovely coat since I stumbled upon it last night. I was just a few hours too late. I think I may spend the rest of the weekend mourning..

Oh, Rococo, I hope that one day you stumble upon another Lilli Ann like this one and it magically appears in your store reserved for me!
